Almost everyone enjoys a cool glass of water on a hot summer day or a soothing bubble bath after a stressful day of work. What if the only water available to use is the same water that clothes, dishes, and cows are washed in or what if you had to walk miles to get any water at all? This is reality for millions of people in South Asia.
March 22nd is World Water Day, a chance to create awareness of the need many people have for clean water. This year, though, we don’t want to just focus on the need people have for water but also on the help that people are receiving. Between this year and last year, there has been a significant drop in how many people lack access to clean water.
The Difference that is Being Made
- 750 million people lacked access to safe water
- A child died every 60 seconds due to water-related disease/poor sanitation
- Woman and children spent 200 million hours each day collecting water
Now, in 2016:
- Only 663 million people lack access to safe water
- A child dies every 90 seconds due to water-related disease/poor sanitation
- Women and children spend 125 million hours each day collecting water
We are able to see this drop in numbers because many people are being supplied clean water through the digging of wells, the distribution of water filters, etc. Yes, there is still immense need for millions of people to receive access to safe water, but praise God for those who have been helped! For your March blog assignment, we encourage you to share about World Water Day and the need for safe water.

Clean water is saving lives. Entire communities benefit. Children dying from waterborne illnesses can be healthy and go to school. Women who must walk miles before they can begin their daily chores are free to care for their families. Those who don’t know Christ experience His love.
As World Water Day approaches on March 22nd, thank you for helping us create awareness of the need for clean water among many families in South Asia!
